Xbox Game Pass Price increased by Fifty Percent

Is 'Gaming's best deal' even 'a good deal' anymore?

Xbox recently announced changes to their Game Pass service, essentially increasing the price for the highest tier for the service by $10 which is a 50% price increase from $19.99 to $29.99. Question is, is it worth it?

First, for those who are curious about how the changes affect them, here it is from the horse's mouth:

"Starting today, we’re introducing three upgraded Game Pass plans based on how players play: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate. Each includes expanded game libraries, including PC titles, unlimited cloud gaming, in-game benefits (including Riot Games titles), and a revamped Rewards with Xbox experience. Today’s Game Pass Core subscribers will automatically move to Essential, Standard subscribers will transition to Premium, and Ultimate subscribers will remain in the Ultimate plan." ~ announcement

For those in Essential and Premium, the prices essentially stay the same but we all know the best deal in gaming has always been about the the full price plans. The same plans which are demanding more, that's 50% more on the Xbox Game Pass and 37% on the PC Game Pass, that's an increase from $11.99 to $16.49.

And what are they offering for this bump in prices? More older games which are mainly from Ubisofts back catalog. Mainly that and a promise to make more games available on day one, mostly first party Xbox titles including Black Ops 7, Ninja Gaiden 4, and The Outer Worlds 2.

Whether this is still a good enough deal to keep the subscription depends on each individual subscriber and how much they value their experience with Game Pass. The consensus online however is that people are very discontent with it with some unsubscribing ASAP. Some people have even reported cases of the site for unsubscribing not working at times, probably due to being overwhelmed by the traffic.

Xbox is already deep in providing themself as the service rather than selling consoles and games as one time purchase products. So we are yet to see how this decision is going to work out for this business model they are commited to.
